We all agree that life during the 90s was simple and less complicated. Students back then would rather have a kulfi rather eat at a fancy ice-cream parlour. The churan and candy thela outside the school made more sense than some Mcburger, and ‘FLAMES’ was the guru to help us find our partner.
Games like kho-kho were loved and the time when teachers kept a ruler at hand to whack us can still give us the shivers. The 90s had a charm that is hard to re-live. Let's check out 8 school-time things from an era of no social media and mobile phones:

1. When marbles were cooler than Marvel
No offense to students of this age -- we all love Marvel superheroes too. But the marble (kanche) games were something else back then.
They were our Marvel superheroes who fought beside us and scored us victories every day and gave us another reason to tease our friends, although not every time.
2. Silly zero period games that we still talk about
Don't try and tell you have never played indoor games like Name-Place-Animal-Thing or the tremendously popular FLAMES or even, Tic-Tac-Toe (Zero-kanta) and the very famous Tippi-Tippi-Tap.
These games were our only source of happiness in the boring student life. -- From deciding if we'll marry our crush as we found through FLAMES to building vocabulary through Name-Place-Animal-Thing, we all grew up.
3. Funny drawings from our classmates
Friends were the only part of school life that made us want to go to school every day. Sometimes we made fun of them, and other times, we were the victim.
Overall, they were our sweethearts and that bond is still so strong that most of us can still do anything for them. We cherish those funny drawings from our classmates at the back of our notebooks and chits passed behind the teacher’s back. This one is dedicated to the funny ones.
4. Do not touch my Geometry box!
The 90s kid school-life edition will be incomplete without the mention of the precious geometry box that consisted of a compass, protector, divider and set-square.
So many of us hated maths but loved that instrument box more than anything else in our school bag. And the scary part was protecting the protector in the geometry box since people frequently misplaced their own instruments and 'borrowed' from others. Needless to say, they were hardly ever seen again!
5. When the stroll to the tuition became a no-tuition-today stroll
Every 90s kid in India must have taken this stroll of joy. We longed for those days when we would go out for tuitions and never make to one and all for the best reasons!
That precious time was used to conduct important ‘meetings’ where we would decide who would propose to their crush that week and we remember the unique ‘adda’ zones fondly.
6. Skipping the school assembly

After maths, the school assembly was the worst. They were equally boring, demanding and included punishment as well when we did something wrong.
Nails not cut? Stay back in the school ground in the scorching heat.
Not properly dressed? Stay back.
Shoes not polished? That’s such a crime. Stay back.
7. The school bus/van catastrophe
Are you Team School Van? Oh, dear. We used to feel like squeezed lemons about to break the car door and fall on the road any time.
Sitting felt like standing because often, that is how congested it got! And the school bags weighing more than the students themselves only added to the school van calamity.
8. Eating lunch in class and playing during recess
We have all done this, especially the backbenchers. So many of us carefully ate through our lunchboxes with poker faces while the teacher was busy teaching algebra, all so we could use the precious recess to run around the school grounds. Who wants to lose play time to maths?

Similarly, things like distributing birthday toffees to friends, skipping classes, the beautiful ‘free-period’ art classes, the steel lunch-boxes, and the ‘god promises’ to stay friends forever -- all these things make our 90s student life 100 times better and give us memories to cherish for a lifetime.
