Veronicavon/VHS Ghost/Steve’s Breakfast. Whiteside Theatre, 361 SW Madison Avenue, Corvallis. 7 p.m. $10. Veronicavon: Bewitchingly dreamy and glowing with fuzz, veronicavon is the brainchild of songwriters Chris Hackman (Human Barbie) and Xuan Nguyen (Xuan), who joined forces in 2020 with a (secret) plan to stay sane and explore uncharted horizons in lo-fi pop. Together, they conjured a universe of grainy synths, cassette-drenched drums, and warbling guitars, where Nguyen’s enchanting vocals swirl in a wistful, playful, and instantly addictive dreamscape… VHS Ghost: In 2021, while battling cancer, Brandon discovered his musical calling during chemotherapy sessions. This journey led to the birth of vhs ghost, a project named after a love for vintage horror films and their comforting scores. With his cat Salem by his side, he produced his inaugural album not knowing what the results of treatment would be. Since beating cancer he continues to craft a unique blend of spooky atmospheres and melodic compositions, with Salem remaining an integral part of the creative process. Characterized by warm lo-fi tape recordings and vintage keyboard tones, vhs ghost’s music channels 80s/90s nostalgia and macabre allure, using retro keyboards, heartfelt guitar riffs, and ethereal synth harmonies. Stevie’s Breakfast: Stevie’s Breakfast is a tasty indie band based in Salem, Oregon. Named for their long-time friend and his penchant for protein bars, Stevie’s Breakfast blends elements of indie, jazz, grunge, and rock, leading to an eclectic sound unique to them. Those familiar with The Backseat Lovers, Her’s, and Mustard Service, will find themselves drawn to the Breakfast experience.
