World of Warcraft Classic: Guide To The Darkmoon Faire (2024)

World of Warcraft has all kinds of activities and events to keep players busy, and one of the more popular is the traveling carnival, the Darkmoon Faire. This unique event happens once a month, appears in three different locations, and like a proper traveling carnival, the Faire offers games, prizes, and other incentives in exchange for special currency.

WoW's Darkmoon Faire trades tickets for prizes, and there are several daily quests that players can do to collect as many as possible. The Faire stays for a week, but it returns next month, and it will take more than one trip to collect all those precious tickets.

The following guide is specifically for the Wrath of the Lich King version of World of Warcraft: Classic. The Darkmoon Faire after the Cataclysm expansion is considerably different, such as being in a stationary location and always open, although there are portals to the modern island of the Darkmoon Faire in the old fairground locations.

Darkmoon Faire Locations

There are two places in Old Azeroth where the fair sets up and one location in Outland. They rotate every month, going from Goldshire to Thunder Bluff and then to Shattrath before returning to the woods of Elwynn again.

  • Elwynn Forest. The small wooded field just south of Goldshire is conveniently close to the Alliance capital city of Stormwind. Horde needs to tread softly to visit this location.
  • The Plains of Mulgore. The peaceful hills of northern Mulgore are quiet and isolated, next to but well-separated from the high-mesas of the Tauren capital, Thunder Bluff.
  • South of Shattrath. The only neutral location of the Faire, it's located outside of the southern entrance of Outland's capital city in Terrokar Forest.

Not all the characters that players meet on the fairground are trading junk for tickets. Some are selling rare goods for old-fashioned gold, and these items are only available when the fair is in town. Proprieter Silas Darkmoon is usually near the front gate, flanked by bodyguards, greeting visitors.

Vendors

  • Sayge: Raiders still come to visit Sayge for his precious scrolls and world buffs awarded just by answering a few simple questions. There's a chance to get a quest with a fortune if the player asks for a written version.
  • Flik: A vendor selling frog pets and a leather ball that players can throw at each other.
  • Sylannia: The drink vendor, she sells unique beverages that can't be purchased elsewhere, like soda and slushies.
  • Stamp Thunderhorn: Enjoy Darmoon Dogs and Deep Fried Cruncybars from Sylannia's fellow vendor.
  • Professor Thaddeus Paleo: The prof sells a variety of scrolls. Bring any Darkmoon decks to this NPC as well.
  • Lhara: Shares a booth with Thaddeus and sells two kinds of uncut gems.

Quest Givers

These are the NPCs that trade certain special goods for Darkmoon Faire tickets. Some have different tasks than others, but all reward the player with Darkmoon Faire tickets, with the exception of one.

  • Kerri Hicks: The strong local woman, bring Kerri a Black Mace or a Dense Grinding Stone.
  • Yebb Neblegear: This creative goblin is building something special, but he needs Vibrant Plumes, Glowing Scorpid Blood, and Evil Bat Eyes.
  • Rinling: This troll is the local repair carnie but needs some Repair Kits and Thorium Widgets to do his job.
  • Chronos: An NPC that rewards leatherworkers, he accepts a variety of leather-crafted goods, some of which drop or can be purchased during certain quests.
  • Morja: This NPC offers a quest, but it's not what a player might expect. Morja has a secret quest and a rare pet in return for a mug of Dark Iron Ale. This can only be purchased in the Grim Guzzler, the tavern in Blackrock Depths.

Grinding rep with the Darkmoon Faire in WotLK doesn't have much benefit other than tweaking some of the prices from vendors or counting towards one of the Exalted reputations that are part of the Insane In The Membrane Achievement.

The Darkmoon Faire Card Decks

World of Warcraft Classic: Guide To The Darkmoon Faire (3)

These cards drop virtually anywhere in the open world of Azeroth, although they tend to appear more often in higher-level instances like Strathholme. Since Inscription was added to the game, some can only be crafted. The Aces from these decks are the most difficult to find, dropping randomly from specific bosses in endgame raids and selling for a small fortune on the Auction House.

Every single deck requires that the player find a total of eight cards, from Ace to Eight, to complete a set. They all start the same quest: that the deck is returned to the Darkmoon Fortune Teller or Professor Thaddeus Paleo for a reward.
