WWE NXT Battleground advertised multiple championship matches in WWE’s answer to The Forbidden Door. TNA Knockout’s champion Jordynne Grace challenged Roxanne Perez for the WWE NXT Championship.
Former AEW star Ethan Page challenged Trick Williams for the WWE NXT Championship. North American champion Oba Femi defended his title against Wes Lee and Joe Coffey and WWE crowned a new Women’s North American champion in Kelani Jordan.

Kelani Jordan Wins Women’s NXT North American Title Ladder Match
Lash Legend went through a ladder as all the women threw her on it, but the ladder didn’t break. Of course, this looked even more painful and fans chanted “holy s—t!”
Fans chanted “this is awesome!” as the action continued. Despite the collective lack of experience, the entire field overachieved as a unit.
Sol Ruca hit two Sol Snatchers out of thin air as she is now hitting her impressive finisher almost as quickly as the RKO.
NXT Women’s Ladder Match: B+
Frazer and Axion Def. The Good Brothers
Axion was selling a shoulder injury, and after screwing up a spot, Vic Joseph did a good job covering for him and his left arm.
Despite the pace of this tag team match, and the action, they had trouble following an exciting women’s Ladder Match.
The Good Brothers worked over Frazer for much of this match while an injured Axiom healed on the outside.
After a great nearfall, which was broken up by a diving Nathan Frazer, fans chanted “this is awesome!”
Frazer and Axiom won with a Super Spanish Fly followed by a Phoenix Splash. An excellent PLE so far.
Frazer and Axion vs. Good Brothers Grade: B+
Lola Vice Def. Shayna Baszler
There were a lot of commercials and interstitials throughout this show as NXT had a short card and intended to fill up no less than two hours.
There's nothing less intimidating, that takes away from what's supposed to be a terrifying aura of NXT Underground, than seeing the goons at ringside giddily clapping along to salsa music.
People are going to see pictures of this match, with Shayna Baszler's fake blood-soaked gear and think she committed a homicide.
After some submission wrestling, the action spilled to the outside where the pair made a mess of the announce table. Shayna took out some goons on the outside of the ring.
This was a highly creative match that was made to look real by two shooters. The best part of the match was the TKO finish, where Baszler did a good job of selling confusion, and that she did not realize the fight had ended.
NXT Underground Grade: B
Oba Femi Def. Wes Lee And Joe Coffey
Sexxy Red’s contribution was congratulating Kelani Jordan backstage and then leaving for the club. She later twerked with Kelani and a backstage announcer.
As Wes Lee and Joe Coffey teamed up on Oba Femi, fans chanted “let’s go Oba/let’s go Wes!”
Oba Femi answered the pro-Oba chants with a double suplex. He then followed up with an even more impressive spot where he Gorilla-Pressed Wes Lee from the top rope onto Coffey. This man has no choice but to be a GOAT.
Gallus interfered. For their troubles, they were mauled by Oba Femi before Wes Lee dove onto them. This opened the door for Oba Femi to finish off Joe Coffey and retain the WWE NXT North American Championship. Awesome match.
Oba Fem vs. Wes Lee vs. Joe Coffee Grade: A-
Roxanne Perez Def. Jordynne Grace
This PLE was paced in a way that allowed the viewing audience to watch the NBA Finals for long stretches due to all the down time.
Fans were into this match immediately, chanting “this is awesome” as soon as the bell rang.
There were dueling chants of “let’s go Jordynne/lets go Roxy!” and even “TNA/NXT!”
Booker T made an apt comparison of Jordynne Grace to Chyna.
In a dangerous spot, Roxanne Perez almost slammed her head on the edge of the apron while flipping over the top rope with a triangle submission hold.
Tatum Paxley stole the TNA Women’s Championship. Following a cameo from Ash By Elegance (Dana Brooke), Jordynne Grace retrieved it. The interference didn’t really play into the finish as Jordynne fended off Perez’s attack. Perez countered Grace’s finisher and won with the Pop Rox.
Roxanne Perez vs. Jordynne Grace Grade: B+
Trick Williams Def. Ethan Page
Vic Joseph shrewdly brought up the fact that Trick Williams lost his first title defense as NXT champion.
Unlike TNA’s Jordynne Grace, Ethan Page was treated as an outsider who “does not go here.” There were some chants of “All Ego,” but more fans responded with “...sucks!”
As this match reached its climactic stages, Page hit a power slam on Williams through a table.
Williams ultimately won clean with the Trick Shot out of nowhere. A very good title defense with a lot of heat.
Sexxy Red joined Trick Williams in the ring and celebrated with the world champion as NXT Battleground went off the air.
